Botswana's Seasonal Highlights

The Okavango Delta’s water levels are not directly tied to the local rains, but rather to the seasonal floodwaters that arrive from Angola, some 1,200 kilometers away. This floodwater takes months to reach the Delta, typically arriving between April and June, peaking around July or August.  These conditions create unique and special moments on safari whether by mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions or by a safari drive, there will be plenty to take in

During the dry season (September to October) the water starts to recede making for an equally spectacular time to visit Botswana as water becomes scarce, concentrating animals around available sources. It is the prime time for land based game drives and walking safaris

Other regions such as the Selinda or Linyanti allow for boating experiences more frequently throughout the year

Getting There and Getting Around

For safaris, you will typically fly in and out of Maun or Kasane via Johannesburg on a commercial carrier and then shared small charter planes to connect to lodges
